Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions that are not covered here don't hesitate to contact us!

How do I download and install Dealbase?

Dealbase is downloaded from the Microsoft AppSource Store, accessible within Excel (Home → Add Ins) or here.

Installation happens immediately, and Dealbase runs both on Excel on prem and Excel Online. Once installed, the plug in should show up in your Home tab within Excel.

To log in, use the same work email you used to sign up. The email should be associated with a Microsoft account, since Microsoft manages sign-ins for extra security 💪

If you cannot install Dealbase, it is likely because you need IT permission - see here on how to solve.
Alternatively, you may be running an older version of Excel, in which case contact robert@dealbase.co

How do you treat sensitive data?

Because Dealbase runs locally, business sensitive or confidential data never leaves the user’s computer. Additionally, analysis generation and computation, occur locally on the user’s computer.

How do you ensure Dealbase is secure?

In short, Dealbase exists within a Microsoft environment, has been approved by Microsoft and relies on Microsoft for authentication.

For those seeking more detail: Dealbase is approved by and available on the Microsoft AppSource store. User licenses are connected to Microsoft 365 accounts. Whenever it is used, Dealbase asks the user to login using their Microsoft account, and then checks the existence of an active license. Login occurs via Microsoft SSO, which has been implemented in compliance with Microsoft’s prescriptions and best practices – we do not record any password, nor ask the user to set up one.

Is Dealbase on prem or cloud? How are updates delivered?

Dealbase runs on prem. Whenever the user activates Dealbase on a workbook, the code of Dealbase’s latest version is downloaded from a Content Delivery Network through an SSL-encrypted connection, and then executed inside a webview in the Excel taskpane. Dealbase updates automatically.

I have installed Dealbase but I cannot log-in and use it

Your Dealbase trial or active license is associated to your email address. Make sure that it is the same email address with which you are licensed to use Microsoft Excel, and that you have logged into Excel with that account by following the Login button from the Dealbase panel.

Can colleagues edit an .xlsx I made with Dealbase?

Yes. If you have Dealbase and send a workbook with Dealbase-generated analyses to a colleague who also has Dealbase, they will be able to pick up exactly where you left off and interact with your work through the plug in. If the recipient does not have Dealbase, they will still be able to interact with the analyses as one would normally interact with Excel formulas.

I’d like to automate analyses Dealbase does not cover. Can you add them?

Yes. For subscribers to our Enterprise tier, we are happy to implement additional analyses that may be fund-specific or currently not offered in Dealbase. You can expect each analysis to be implemented in a matter of 1-2 weeks or faster.

I signed up for a trial, but I can’t download or log into Dealbase?

You are likely encountering a corporate IT issue. Please contact your IT and feel free to cc robert@dealbase.co, we have lots of experience navigating this issue. You can forward to your IT this summary of the Dealbase Terms & Conditions:

The following paragraphs briefly illustrate the terms of use and privacy policy of Dealbase Add-In, whose complete statement can be found at:
https://plugin.srv.dealbase.co/licence-agreement.html and
https://plugin.srv.dealbase.co/privacy-policy.html

(1) Dealbase is an Excel plugin, built via the Office Add-ins platform, capable of generating analyses of companies’ financial data by automatically writing formulas or generating charts, in the Excel workbook on which it is used. It can be installed from the Microsoft AppSource store.

(2) Whenever the user activates Dealbase on a workbook, the code of Dealbase’s latest version is downloaded from a Content Delivery Network through an SSL-encrypted connection, and then executed inside a webview in the Excel taskpane.

(3) Dealbase is offered on a subscription basis. Each person using the plugin needs a license, which is connected to their Microsoft 365 account.

(4) Dealbase sends real-time usage data to our analytics service, so that we can understand how users interact with our plugin. This data collection allows us to improve our product and prevent frauds; it is thus legally motivated by the existence of legitimate interest.

(5) Business sensitive or confidential data never leaves the user’s computer: even when we track usage, we never transmit to our analytics service any content of the Excel workbook on which the plugin is used, nor any user-authored content that may occur in Dealbase configurations (e.g., the text fields that a user fills in while configuring analyses) or in the workbook metadata (e.g., the workbook’s filename, or file path).

(6) Dealbse performs no other interaction with remote endpoints other than for code download, authentication & licensing, or transmitting usage data, as described in the previous paragraphs. Analyses generation and computation, in particular, occur locally on the user’s computer.(7) Dealbase is offered as-is, without any warranty. We exclude any liability with regards to the actions that Dealbase performs on the user’s Excel workbooks. Moreover, the user remains the sole responsible for the correctness and fitness of any content generated by Dealbase.
